Along the Atlantic coast of Southeastern Brazil dwells the golden lion tamarin. The rainforests here are seasonal, with some trees dropping leaves during the dry season, in contrast to the well-known tropical rainforests of the Amazon basin, where trees are in a state of lush greenness all year round. The summers are hot and wet, with an average of 59 inches of rain falling each year. The winters tend to be a bit cooler and dry.
